This season’s small, but efficient team includes a solid mix of returning veterans and new students. Fresh from the excavation of the 6th-century CE “Church Wreck” at Marzamemi, come project directors Liz and Justin, and James (Stanford University, Department of Classics) with Max and Elise as well.
Field Director Lana hails from the University at Buffalo, SUNY (via an MA in Classics at Brock), but comes from Athens where she has spent the year as the Homer and Dorothy Thompson Fellow at the Canadian Institute in Greece. Ceramicists Megan D. (Stanford Classics graduate student) and Sarah (a recent graduate of the University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Classical Studies, now heading off to read Classical Archaeology at Oxford) reign in the pottery shed. Peter and Corwan hail from Brock University’s Department of Classics and History respectively; Celeste and Michael hold degrees from the Program in Maritime Archaeology at Flinders University; a graduate of Texas A&M University’s Nautical Archaeology Program, Megan C. returns to Burgaz, adding to her list of INA projects. What a terrific group!
