After a lifetime of adventures and achievements, Jack W. Kelley passed from this life September 15, 2015 at the age of 84. Having lived what many can only dream, he leaves a legacy in which Tulsan’s can be proud.
Businessman Jack Kelley played a uniquely important role in the development of nautical archaeology into a respected academic discipline. He was the first person to make a substantial financial commitment to the newly incorporated American Institute of Nautical Archaeology (now INA), making the budding institute’s survival possible. As INA’s first major donor and continuing champion, Jack Kelley was a driving force in bringing INA to where it is today.
